Lodzer Centre Congregation
Welcome to our synagogue community. We are a traditional Conservative congregation in North York built on friendship, participation, learning, and Jewish continuity. Our members include seniors, young families, singles, empty nesters, interfaith families, newcomers, and lifelong members who care deeply about Jewish life and community.

Rabbi Eli Courante was born in Soviet Russia to a family of Orthodox Refuseniks. At the age of 15, he made Aliyah with his family when they were traded for US wheat. He spent his youth in Israel where he was ordained for the Rabbinate, got married, served in the IDF, studied psychology and Semitic studies, and taught Talmud and Aaramaic. Rabbi Eli and his wife Irina came to Canada in 2002 when he accepted the pulpit of St. Catharines in Niagara Region. They currently live in Toronto with their kids and have been calling The Lodzer their home since 2016. Cantor David Young began his musical career as the choir director of the Shaarei Shomayim choir in Toronto at the tender age of 16. He has served as Cantor for Synagogues over the past 30 years, and currently prides himself as the Cantor of the Lodzer.Cantor David has a magnificent choir made up of volunteers that beautify the service each Shabbat Rosh Chodesh.The Cantor is married to Beverley Young and is a Certified Public Accountant by profession.
